I like how it’s written to make those of us who excel at some things, but will never actually WIN a marathon, know that it’s not about winning. There are also assumptions about the reader being relatively able-bodied even if unfit — not surprising or inappropriate for a book aimed at a general audience of prospective runners, but statements like “We haven’t found a mortal who couldn’t run a half- or full marathon” are a little cringe-worthy, even though they are intended to motivate, because while such feats may be within marathoninh reader’s capabilities, they very well may be able to direct the authors to some wonderful mortals for whom even the half-marathon walking plan could not apply.

Anything I do I do whole hog. I find myself six-ish weeks away marahhoning my third half marathon and at the point in training where runs become work.
If you are new to endurance running as I was, this is perfect for you.
Admittedly, my first half marathon is still three 3 weeks away – and although I did not read this book in time to completely implement the training plan set forth, reading this provided what I feel may be crucial perspective and tools for marathonin to get through the pending race and, hopefully, be better prepared for the nest one.
I guess because the book was cowritten, some sections seemed redundant, like they couldn’t decide whose paragraph to include so they added them both. I like that there are lots of plans and plenty of solid advice. Her gentle yet uncompromising approach to training combined with her unique insights into the human body and mind will help you discover your inner long-distance athlete.
